Crafted to Mix, Made to Celebrate

Our tequila brings smooth flavor and vibrant character to every occasion.

Our Process

At Aluxes, every step honors the land and time.

Cooking the Agave

Mature Weber agaves are harvested and slowly cooked in traditional ovens to release their natural sugars.

Fermentation and Distillation

The cooked agave is crushed to extract the juice, which is then fermented and distilled in stills to create pure tequila.

Aging

The tequila is bottled and aged in oak barrels to develop deeper flavors.

Our History

Born in the heart of the mayan culture, Aluxes Tequila is crafted from Blue agave, hand-harvested by our expert jimadores. Every drop reflects the soul of the land and the magic that inspires us.

Rooted in the legends of the ancient Maya, our tequila honors the sacred bond between the earth and its guardians—the aluxes. These mythical spirits, said to protect the land and its harvests, are woven into every step of our process. Just as the Maya offered saká to the gods, we offer care, time, and patience to each batch we distill.

About the Aluxes

Aluxes are mythological beings from Maya culture believed to protect nature. They are known as goblins or elves and are said to inhabit jungles, caves, and cenotes.

Origin

According to legend, the aluxes were created by Maya priests from clay, honey, and wildflowers.

Characteristics

They are small beings with the appearance of children. They are said to have the power to mimic animals and throw stones at humans to scare them. They are mischievous and enjoy playing pranks on people.

Roles

They watch over the crops and the jungle. They protect the fields from intruders. They accuse those who invade their lands. They help lost people find their way.

Relationship with Humans

It is said that aluxes are benevolent if people show them and nature proper respect. However, if offended, they may cast "bad air" which brings fever and delirium to those who wrong them.

Aluxes are mythological beings from Maya culture and do not exist in real life. However, they are deeply respected and feared in southeastern Mexico and several Central American countries.

In Maya mythology, aluxes are guardian spirits that protect the jungle, forests, rocks, and crops. They are considered mischievous and mystical beings, integral to Maya culture. And they enjoy laughing and delighting in their land, which represents their bond with Mother Nature. Their childlike spirit always leads them into playful mischief—so just help them care for their home and don’t litter, as this bothers and hurts them.

Aluxes manifest through sounds, laughter, shadows, vanishing figures, and objects that change location. The name alux refers to the goblin or spirit in the mythological tradition of some Maya peoples from southeastern Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala.

According to stories, these goblins dress like ancient Mayas and play tricks on those who don’t leave them offerings. They are also said to scare or protect travelers and those who visit their favorite spots.

They are about half a meter tall and live in caves and tunnels within the limestone soil (shashcab) of the Yucatán Peninsula. They are known to sometimes eat tender corn and enjoy jade.

Aluxes can be offered cigarettes, food, saká, and balche.

Saká is a sacred beverage for the Maya, made from half-cooked nixtamalized corn. It is mainly used as an offering to the mountain gods during the stages of the milpa (land measurement, clearing, planting, weeding, and harvesting). Sak means corn. Corn-based drinks have always been considered sacred.

The Brand

Aluxes Tequila is more than a drink — it’s a story bottled.

The idea behind Aluxes began with a question: what if tequila could do more than just taste good? What if it could carry meaning—echoing the spiritual and symbolic essence of a land shaped by centuries of myth and ritual? That thought led us to the Aluxes, the small yet powerful protectors of the natural world in Mayan legend. They stand at the crossroads of the sacred and the earthly—just like tequila.

We believe that tequila and Mayan mysticism go hand in hand. Both speak of rituals, transformation, and connection—to the land, to others, to something deeper. With Aluxes, we don’t just bottle tequila; we bottle an experience rooted in ancestral symbolism and a commitment to authenticity.

With roots deep in Mexican tradition and a spirit that honors the magic of the land, Aluxes Tequila invites you to savor a story—a drink that celebrates the richness of heritage while embracing the mystery that still lives in the agave fields, the stone pyramids, and every shared toast.

The Legacy

A tribute to the earth, time, and tradition.

Our legacy is grounded in deep respect — for the agave that grows under the Mexican sun, for the sacred soil that nourishes it, and for the hands that shape it into something extraordinary. Aluxes is not merely a brand; it is a continuation of ancient intention, a bridge between past and present.

Guided by ancestral wisdom and inspired by the myth of the Aluxes — the unseen protectors of the land in Mayan lore — we see tequila not just as a drink, but as a symbol of guardianship, reverence, and transformation. In every stage of our process, from cultivation to distillation, we honor the rituals that have shaped generations.

Each bottle we produce holds more than just liquid. It holds the echo of time, the voice of tradition, and the essence of ritual. It’s the result of patience, purity, and purpose — aged not just in barrels, but in intention and legacy. Learn More
